If you’re like most, you probably sat down and made a few resolutions to ring in 2022. Many of us choose to center these goals around health, wellness, our relationships, and our careers. However, financial resolutions are always a hot topic as well.
This month, your friendly Columbia, South Carolina loan company, Blazer Financial Services, will bring you some tips on how to set (and achieve) goals for your finances in the New Year.
First up, we’ll discuss how cutting back on fast food and restaurant dinners can have a positive impact on your bank account (and your health!).
How much does the average American spend on eating out? Moneyunder30.com says that figure sits at about $3000 per year. This can be further broken down into an average spend of $13 per meal when buying a meal from a restaurant.
With figures like these, it’s extraordinarily easy to spend $50 a week on grabbing a few quick lunches each week. That doesn’t even factor in the cost of a sit-down meal (and maybe drinks) at a restaurant over the weekend. We could even mention the $5-7 (or more!) lattes and coffee drinks consumed almost daily from places like Starbucks.
It seems expensive to grocery shop and prepare meals at home, but the cost per meal of cooking at home is vastly lower than a meal from a restaurant. Plus, you usually have more leftovers!
Imagine reducing the amount of money you spend on eating out and novelty items like coffee drinks by just $50 a week. In a year you will have saved $2600.
What could you do with that extra $2600? You could put it toward a family vacation or invest in a hobby you love. If you’re more practical, you could use it to pay down credit card balances or a car note. Aren’t all of those things infinitely more valuable than the fleeting satisfaction of a quick meal? We think so.
Consider making one of your financial resolutions for 2022 reducing the number of meals you eat out. Your wallet and your health will thank you!
